top areas to play
Manito Park – One of Spokane's best parks, Manito has dedicated pickleball courts tucked among manicured gardens and old trees. Morning drop-in sessions are common here, and the crowd tends to be friendly and welcoming to newcomers.
Riverfront Park – Right in the heart of downtown, Riverfront Park sits on the former Expo '74 world's fair grounds. It has pickleball courts with views of the Spokane River — hard to beat for a mid-day session after sightseeing.
Valley YMCA – Out in Spokane Valley, the YMCA runs solid indoor pickleball with open play most days and organized leagues. If you are in town during winter, this is where the serious players are.
indoor vs outdoor
Spokane gets real winters. Snow and cold from November through February mean indoor courts are not optional for year-round players. The YMCAs and rec centers pick up that slack well. The upside: summers here are legitimately great — dry, sunny, and warm in a way western Washington rarely is. Courts fill fast from May through September, so show up early on weekend mornings.
tips for visiting players
More sun than you'd expect: Spokane clears 250 sunny days a year most years. Summer outdoor pickleball here is genuinely good — better than many larger cities.
Lilac City Pickleball Club: This is Spokane's main pickleball org. They run events and post an updated open-play schedule. Their Facebook group is worth joining before your visit so you know what is happening when you land.
Worth pairing with other activities: Riverside State Park is nearby if you want to hike between sessions. The Palouse is a short drive if you have an extra day.
